Description

We are currently seeking a volunteer Substance Abuse Advocate to provide emotional support to individuals and families. This position works with a culturally diverse population and in conjunction with the Meeting Facilitator to support program participants to address counseling, educational, and employment related needs. Possible communication with community service providers to secure additional resources.

Personal qualities include being dynamic, energetic, collaborative, and a team member focused on providing advocacy assistance to one or more departments for the organization.

Qualifications

  • A two (2) year minimum of abstinence and sobriety for individuals with a history of alcohol and/or substance abuse

Experience

  • Experience working in a recovery program or halfway house
  • Experience working with clients in substance abuse treatment, or with homeless individuals/families
  • Demonstrated experience in the area of substance abuse
  • Knowledgeable in one or more areas of mental health, addiction, and chemical dependency
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office and desktop/web applications
  • Tech savvy (must be comfortable and familiar with using a computer, laptop, etc.)

Responsibilities: (includes but not limited to)

  • Attend individual and group meetings
  • Actively participates in weekly team meetings
  • Assists with weekly meeting topics (if necessary)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Maintains professional boundaries
  • Relevant skills in exercising initiative, good judgment and sound decision-making
  • Communicates effectively both orally and in writing
  • Works well independently or in a team setting

MHRCET strives to deliver services and support necessary to improve the quality of life for children, youth, and adults with mental illness and addictive disorders.

Applicants must have voice and video capabilities in order to conduct and follow-up with interviews.
